"Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised" (Proverbs 31:30).
In our feeble humanity, we are often so focused on the outward stuff. We critique our hair, our weight, the features we don’t like. Many times we compare ourselves to other women and wonder why God didn’t make us more like them. But to dwell here in this negative pattern of thinking is to rely more on our own faulty minds than on the words of the Bible, which are God-breathed and therefore infinitely more trustworthy than yours or mine.
It’s simple: “The Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
1 Peter 3:3-4 also reminds us, “do not let your adorning be external...but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.”
You and I are never going to live this out, though, if I just rebuke us and say we should stop thinking this way! Who am I that anyone would listen? Carve out 30 minutes today. Open the word. Read, study, talk to your Creator. And repeat. We can only be more like our Savior Jesus if we spend time with him🙂
